Before I had Ethan I thought temper tantrums we’re had by unruly children. My understanding is different now. You take a little human being with little understanding of the world and give them the ability to feel these intense emotions, emotions that we as adults sometimes have a hard time dealing with, what else would you expect. They have neither learned how to effectively express their emotions or control them. We let Ethan cry, we let him get upset. We don’t interfere with his learning process. Of course we are here to comfort him but we definitely take a step back when he is throwing a tantrum. We let him feel that anger or sadness and let him learn to regulate it. When he gets older it will be easier to discuss his feelings with him but for now we use oils.
In this article on the doTERRA science blog you can learn about how to use essential oils to help your little ones learn to take control of their emotions and some free printable activities. Honestly, I think these activities are great for adults as well.
Recently I came across these books from Usborne Books. The first one is Hello Happy! It’s full of activities to help kids ages 8 and up, with their feelings of anger and sadness. No Worries! is to help with those who feel anxious or stressed. Click on the book to order it.
Interactive tools used in conjunction with oils that are targeted for certain moods and emotions can help children easier deal with the intense and overwhelming feelings. doTERRA’s line of emotions oils are great for that and they are user friendly.
